Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Uptown Developments Inc. (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use BUILDAiD (the “Service”). We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information you provide
- Registration details — when you request beta access, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), and occupation.
- Questions and inputs — the questions you ask and text you enter, including any addresses you enter for zoning lookups.
- Uploaded documents — if you use review features, the drawings or documents you upload for analysis.
b. Information about your questions and answers
- To operate and improve the Service, we log the questions you submit and the answers generated, together with the relevant scope (for example, building code or zoning) and the email associated with your session.
c. Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Service is used, including pages viewed, session duration, approximate location derived from IP address, and device/browser information.
- Authentication cookie — we set a cookie to keep you signed in to the beta (approximately 30 days).
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide, operate, and secure the Service;
- authenticate your access during the beta;
- generate answers to your questions;
- review and improve answer quality and the product;
- analyze usage trends;
- communicate with you about access and product updates;
- detect, prevent, and respond to abuse and security incidents; and
- comply with legal obligations.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers (“subprocessors”) that help us run the Service, including:
- Microsoft Azure / Azure OpenAI — cloud hosting and AI processing of your questions to generate answers (processed in the Azure Canada Central region).
- Supabase — database hosting for registration and usage records.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — usage analytics.
- Resend — delivery of access-code and notification emails.
- City of Toronto / Esri mapping services — when you use the zoning address lookup, the address or location you enter is sent to these services to geocode it and retrieve zoning information.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of users, the public, or us.
4. AI Processing
When you ask a question, your question — and any context you provide, such as an address or document text — is sent to our AI provider (Azure OpenAI) to generate a response. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your questions that you would not want processed in this way.
5. Data Location and Transfers
Our primary AI processing and core infrastructure are located in Canada (Azure Canada Central). Some providers, such as Google Analytics and Resend, may process limited information outside Canada, including in the United States. Where information is transferred outside your jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.
6. Data Retention
We retain registration and usage information for as long as needed to operate and improve the Service and to meet legal and security obligations, after which we delete or anonymize it. You may request deletion as described below.
7. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent to certain processing. To make a request, email us at info@buildaid.co. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you have concerns about how we handle your information.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Cookies
We use a strictly necessary cookie to maintain your signed-in session, and analytics cookies via Google Analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling the session cookie will prevent you from signing in.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will reflect changes by updating the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated through the Service.
